When I was a kid, it was called Christmas Break. "Winter" works just as well.

I went to my nieces' and nephews' Christmas program this morning. I took leave for a couple of hours and walked into the small gym filled with antsy children, teachers coaching students, and parents patiently waiting. It was awesome to hear them sing the Christmas carols, line dance to country Christmas music, and Navajo Yei-bi-chei (Holy Diety dance). I noticed that all the kids and community members stopped talking when the kids danced the Navajo songs and dance. I thought it was awesome. Those songs are still strong – enough to quiet kinder and 1st graders who had been sitting for about an hour!

I walked away, after hugging "my kids," and hummed those tunes. Everything about me was happy and light, joyous, until I returned to my desk. Still grading finals and several essays.  Grades are due tomorrow, and I took a break because of the curriculum meeting with my department! It's all good. Final exams and grades are due tomorrow. Friday is my school's Christmas program.  I look forward to the program, and the escape to Colorado for a few days. What have I accomplished? Right now, I figure that'll come about a week into my Winter break. Enjoy the holidays/Winter break, you deserve it!
