Amethyst Hinton Sainz

My name is Amethyst Hinton Sainz, and I am proud to be an English teacher at Tucson High Magnet School in downtown Tucson, Arizona. I have taught high school English for 16 years, including everything from writing and literature courses, to humanities team-taught courses, to Advanced Placement, to creative writing. I became a teacher upon the realization that my bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing and Philosophy, while loads of fun, had limited job opportunities. I remained a teacher because in no other profession could I imagine finding the intellectual, personal and creative challenges, and the potential to help people create their own lives of the mind and the imagination. The longer I teach, the more I love my students and colleagues. I attempt to balance work and family, and to take time to read and write for fun. I also enjoy hiking, cooking, blogging, and new adventures. I am on Facebook way too much. I have a Master’s Degree in English Literature and am a candidate-in-waiting for National Board Certification.
